New Terminology:

Spatial Resolution: The measure of the maximum number of pixels in an image in terms of pixels per unit measure or in terms of pixel dimensions.  Spatial resolution of a digital image is usually denoted by ppi, whereas the spatial resolution of output devices is usually given as dpi.  An image scanned at 100-ppi has lower spatial resolution than an image scanned at 300-ppi.
